Farmers Market may return to Stockton Heath

2 March 2011

Farmers MarketHopes are high that the Stockton Heath Farmers' Market could be revived following action from the village's green councillor. After starting brightly, the Stockton Heath Farmers' Market unfortunately had to close last year due to lack of custom. The problems seemed to stem from the location of the market - in the scout hut near to Alexandra Park - far away the main retail 'pitch' in the village. Parish Councillors Robin Wilson (Green) together with fellow councillor Stephen Taylor both believed that the Market could be viable if in a more central location. Since then Kate Fitch, co-ordinator of the Market from Walton Lea Project, has visited the council and there are now plans for it to take place one Sunday every month in the 'square' close to the main crossroads.

"Stockton Heath is a perfect location for a Farmers' Market and we're sure it would be well supported," Robin said.

"Credit is due to Kate Fitch and also the council's village committee who have shown a great interest in reviving this for the whole community.'

It is hoped that the first market will be up and running by late Spring 2011.
